Boric acid cockroach killer recipe

If there’s one thing that you probably don’t want to encounter in the kitchen, I’d bet that that would be the cockroach. The dark damp areas of your kitchen are a cockroach’s paradise. Under the sink and between the refrigerator are the first places they tend to gather. Of course, you can use store-bought bait traps or hire an exterminator to rid your house of them, both of which, require both time and expense or you can try making your own Boric acid cockroach bait using flour, onion, and sugar.

What is Boron?

The active ingredient in this recipe is Boron. Boron, a colorless and odorless powder, often used in eye medicine for its cleansing and disinfecting properties. It also happens to be very effective at ridding the house of cockroaches.

What is Housan Dango?

Housan Dango is a cockroach killer made with Boric acid, wheat, onions, sugar and milk.  While cockroaches’ eyes are not very well developed their sense of smell is highly developed. Attracted to the smell of the Housan dango, cockroaches will come from out of their hiding spaces to find and eat it. Once ingested, the boron causes a paralysis of their nervous system, and eventually death, over the course of a week. Dehydration will set in causing the cockroaches to begin desperately searching for water where they will gather and die. During this period, the cockroaches will warn the other cockroaches in your home of the dangerous bait which will cause the others to leave.

Boric Acid Cockroach Killer – Housan Dango

Onions 200 – 250 grams (3/4 cup to 1 cup)

Boric Acid 500 grams  (3 Cups plus 2 tablespoons)

Flour 140 grams ( 1 Cup)

Sugar 35 grams  ( 1/3 cup)

Milk 12 grams  (Two tablespoons – give or take)

1. Blend the onions in a mixer

2. Add all of the ingredients together and combine into a dough.

3. Add flour; if needed. Form the dough into small round balls.

4. Place the bait in an area with direct light and let them dry for three days to a week.
It is important to make sure they are thoroughly dry as residual moisture will cause them to mold.

I like to place these on wax paper or cardboard and then put them where cockroaches tend to gather.

** Adding a few dashes of Yakiniku sauce (or Teriyaki sauce) is said to make these even more effective.

**Please make sure to keep these out of reach of children and pets.
